What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We allow users to contact us via forms on our site which require your name, email, reason for contact, a subject, and your message. You consent to our site storing these comments and transmitting them to email and other services to support your requests. We may store your name and email for future contact to share news and updates of which you may opt-out by visiting our unsubscribe form.

Subscription forms

We allow users to subscribe to our email newsletters using their email address, name, and country of residence. Sometimes we offer discounts for those who subscribe. You consent to our site storing this information to email you updates from the Threat Intelligence Academy and product discounts. You may unsubscribe at anytime by using the link at the bottom of the email or by visiting our unsubscribe form.

Account Forms

When you create an account or enroll in any courses on any of our properties you agree to our Terms of Service

We collect information such as your first(given) and last(family) name, your contact information (address, phone number), country of residence, and an email address.

These data elements are necessary to conform with payment processing, tax collection, and data protection laws.

By creating an account you also implicitly agree to subscribing to email communications about our products and services.  You can unsubscribe from these communications anytime by visiting our unsubscribe form.  However, while you maintain an account you can’t opt-out or unsubscribe from communications about registration, course content, your course progress, changes to the course, survey you about your usage, or collect your opinion.

You may request your account to be deleted as well as any data related to your account by contacting us via the Contact Us page.  If your account is deleted then you will lose access to any and all products and services across our properties without refund.

Purchase Forms

If you make a purchase on our site, we use a third party payment processor such as Stripe or Paypal. Payments are encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction.

All direct payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and details about this website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Nobody. We will never voluntarily sell nor share your data with any other organization or individual outside of the Threat Intelligence Academy and its parent organization, Adept LLC.

However, we may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you purchase a product or service we will retain the purchase information indefinitely for standard accounting and business tracking purposes.

For users that register on our websites (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on our sites, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. You may make your request through the Contact Us page.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service. Your data will also be collected in third party services within our our accounts for analytics and communications purposes.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We profile users based on the pages within our site they’ve visited and functions they’ve engaged (taken courses, listed to our podcast, registered for our newsletter, etc.). The purpose is to provide targeted communication from us on items of interest and reduce the overall amount of communication users receive from us.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time, so please review it frequently. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the website. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here that it has been updated, so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we use and/or disclose it.

If our site or course is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred to the new owners so that we may continue to sell products to you.
